1. Do we bring our horse or use your horses?
a. Participants must provide their own horse(s) to ride while at the drive. If you do not have a horse, can’t bring your horse, etc. let me know we have a few local farms we have partnered with that have horses for day use.
2. Where will camp be? Will we move daily?
a. There is a stationary camp, we will be camped at the same spot for the duration of the drive. No moving is necessary.
3. How will I contain my horse over night?
a. I would recommend: high-line, temporary paddocks, trailer tie-off, solar electric, etc. You will be on the farm with access to fresh grass and we don’t care about turn out, but a group of horses new to each other can’t just be loose with each other!
4. Do I or my horse need driving experience?
a. No experience necessary, this will hopefully be a great learning experience for all riders and horses. We will have experienced circle bosses that can help direct and guide when needed. You horse should just be broke to ride, cross water, traverse open field, go through a forest, there is also a wooden bridge that some trails cross, we won’t drive across the bridge but you may cross if joining a trail ride, etc.
5. Are there full hook-ups for trailers/campers?
a. No hook-ups are available, you will need to have a generator for power at your camper. Water spigots for refilling tanks/watering/etc. will be available, but hook up is not available.
6. How much will we ride per day?
a. We will drive cattle each morning from about 8AM-1PM. We will break for lunch and then offer trail riding in the afternoon or you can stay in camp for those activities.
7. Why/how are you branding? What’s the purpose of the drive?
a. We brand our cattle for identification purposes; we use a hot brand on the light-colored cattle and a freeze brand on the dark colored cattle. We drive cattle in the spring to get them on the correct field so we can prepare for hay season, we also combine different groups with the bulls they will be bred to.
8. What is the weather like and what clothing do you recommend?
a. Georgia in the spring is like a roller coaster, typically cool in the morning, warm in the afternoon and cool again in the evenings. When I am out in the spring, I layer up so I can cool down when needed or add more when needed. I would hedge a bet that the temps in April will range from 50-80 degrees each day.
9. What activities are in camp?
a. At camp we will have fishing in the lake, corn hole tournaments, music, roping tournaments, creeks to wade in for the kids, fire pits and more. We want this to be a fun experience for the entire family.
